This video shows children and early adolescents in classroom and home situations struggling to write and explores the process of writing, common problems that many students face, and practical strategies that teachers and parents can use to help children become better writers. Viewers will gain insights into these challenges and how they relate to breakdowns in the neurodevelopmental functions of attention, neuromotor function, language, memory and higher order cognition. Observations of students’ writing problems and strategies to address them are discussed by Dr. Levine, other experts, teachers, parents and children themselves. Developing Minds is the recipient of the World Medal in the Special Education category of the 2002 International Film & Video Competition of The New York Festivals.
