This video shows children and early adolescents in classroom and home situations struggling to organize their work and activities and explores becoming better organized and having good work habits. It focuses on common organizational problems that many students face—including difficulty planning tasks and managing time and materials—and offers practical strategies that teachers and parents can use to help children be better organized. Viewers will gain insights into these challenges and how they relate to breakdowns in the neurodevelopmental functions of attention, memory, spatial ordering, temporal-sequential ordering and higher order cognition. Dr. Levine, other experts, teachers, parents and students themselves share observations of children’s organizational problems and strategies to successfully address them. Developing Minds is the recipient of the World Medal in the Special Education category of the 2002 International Film & Video Competition of The New York Festivals.
